4-Day Tour from Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga Sahara desert

Day 1:
Fes – Ifran - Midelt – Errachidia – Erfoud

After breakfast at your Hotel or Riad (chosen by you), we transfer you to the heart of the desert. The trip takes you through the middle Atlas Mountains, a cedar forest and through many Amazigh cities and villages. Stop first at Ifrane, nicknamed “Morocco’s Switzerland”. Ifrane is a charming ski town populated by European-style chalets and surrounded by a large cedar forest. Continue to Midelt where you will stop for an optional lunch. Transfer along the Ziz River, passing through a series of fortified villages before getting to Erfoud for overnight, but just before that you will encounter the Oued (river) Ziz and the Ziz valley that punctuate the landscape with their brilliant green palms, the biggest and longest palm grove in Morocco, with its 40km all filled with 100s of palm trees, and with the golden prehistoric valley walls towering above you, and the dusty ancient kashbah’s & ksar (Berber Kastle), the Ziz lends a feel of what it might be like to mix the worlds of Jurassic Park and Indiana Jones, making it the perfect place to put on your explorers’ hat and go on an adventure. After a long drive we get to your Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Overnight in Erfoud.

Day 2:
Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga

This day you will be heading for the real desert experience (Merzouga) with its big sandy dunes, before leaving Erfoud a first stop will perhaps be by one of their mineral fossils exposition And fabrication workshops, so that you can have an idea how they are made. As for the fossils, during the Paleozoic era - about 540 million to 250 million years ago - the southeast of Morocco lay under the sea. The city of Erfoud is well known for the palm dates in the first place, with its annual palm dates festival and for the mineral fossils, we will then leave Erfoud heading for Merzouga passing by Rissani city first, A former major caravan center, here you may also have some fresh camels milk if interested, as soon as we’ll be leaving the Rissani city we will start seeing the big sandy dunes already from far away. Then after 30 min of drive after Rissani city we get to the city of Merzouga, once we arrive we will take you straight to enjoy what we call the Gnawa music in a Nomad village of el Khamlia, a unique house which can’t be found anywhere else in all Morocco. An optional lunch is scheduled just afterwards, after that we will take you to your Riad where you will relax and have some drink before you ride your camels to take you to your camp for overnight, where you will enjoy a Berber dinner together with Berber men playing their drums around a fire and under shooting stars.

Overnight in Merzouga.
